Ilana Wexler und Abbi Abrams haben beide keine großen Ambitionen in ihrem Leben. Während die 26-jährige Abbi einen Job als Aushilfskraft in einem Fitnessstudio hat, arbeitet die 23-jährige Ilana im Verkauf bei der (fiktiven) Firma "Deals Deals Deals". Dort nimmt sich der Freigeist jede Menge Freiheiten. Nur die Tatsache, dass ihr Chef von ihr eingeschüchtert ist, hat sie bisher vor dem Rauswurf bewahrt. Abbi schwankt zwischen dem Wunsch nach einem Aufstieg zur Trainerin bei ihrem Arbeitgeber und der Hoffnung, als Künstlerin erfolgreich zu werden. Meist ist es Ilana, die mit ihren eigenwilligen Ideen ihre Freundin Abbi mit einspannt, die allerdings auch nur wenig Widerstand entgegen bringt, wenn Ilana mal wieder kiffen und in den Tag leben will.
